The Brussels Institute for Geopolitics (or BIG) exists to help Europe get in shape for the new era of great power politics. It is the first and only think-tank in Brussels wholly dedicated to geopolitics and strategy. Founded in 2022 with the backing of several EU leaders, the institute works closely with decision makers from the public and private sector. It combines an intimate knowledge of the EU with an understanding of the deeper historic and cultural shifts shaping Europe. By bringing together thought leaders from politics, business and civil society, BIG aims to foster a true strategic culture for the European Union.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Research Trainee in March.
Overview of Role
This position offers a unique opportunity for recent graduates to gain valuable experience in a rapidly growing think-tank and contribute to its research efforts, including gathering and analysing data and literature, preparing reports and drafting documents. It amounts to an immersive learning experience in which the successful candidate will deepen their expertise by contributing to substantive research. She or he has a quick mind, a deep interest in European politics and history, the capacity to improvise and preferably a strong knowledge of the EU institutions.
Key Responsibilities
Conducting background research for the institute’s main work streams.
Gathering and analysing data and literature, preparing reports and drafting documents.
Providing operational and administrative support as needed to support the think-tank’s activities and events.
Qualifications
- Education: A university degree in Political Science, International Relations, History, European Studies or a related field.
- Language Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in French is considered an asset.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of EU politics, institutions and current affairs.
- Skills: Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Strong research and analytical abilities. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with research tools and databases.
